Abstract We investigate a case of rotating collapse with cylindrical symmetry. We find that singularities form from regular initial data only when axial pressure vanishes. A general geodesic analysis for cylindrical models with rotation is given. Based on this geodesics analysis the causal structure of singularity is discussed.
