Curricula and teaching programmes

During my engineering, I always use to thought is it possible to have the whole subject on Vector analysis or transforms or complex analysis and many more, Then I found CMS, which has syllabus exactly as I thought. I never thought of math + Programming combination would be this great. Current program (2017-2019) batch syllabus is the best ever that can be, it is useful for students with all background, it has subjects related to mechanical, computer, E&TC engineering, etc. There might be some changes in that syllabus for 2018-20 batch, but 2017-19 syllabus is the best. For me, there should be no change in that syllabus.

Teachers

First I would like to say about Dr. Bhalchandra Gore, as he is the reason I learned programming & how to code, follow syntax, how to think in coding, why is it important to use pen & paper prior to writing code. The world might go beyond numerous programming language, but why C is important, he helped us in that.<br /> <br /> Dr. Bhalchandra Pujari, the person with studying is fun, working is fun, even doing assignments is fun. The enthusiasm during classroom lectures, the outside classroom is something different. He believes in work & hard work of students. Supporting me in my project which was different and not related with ML or CFD and knowing that the project might not have any final outcome.<br /> <br /> Dr. Sukratu Barve is the kind of person I aim to be in my life, calm and try to understand each & every person's problem. Classroom Barve sir, who is strict, focused on the study, and Outside Classroom Barve sir is funny, loving children and many more. He supported me a lot for my interview at IIT, Bombay, for CFD.<br /> <br /> Dr. Mihir Arjunwadkar is a source of knowledge, Classroom lectures and discussions on topics were the things that nobody would have thought be so much interesting. Explaining doubts so calmly & sarcastic (in a funny way) at the same time is not an easy task.<br /> <br /> Dr. Jayaraman Valadi being an external faculty, he is the person who is available at most of the time to students. Exciting lectures, Constant care for students and their future are the things he is best at. Sitting with students and complete the work. Some people may think he is strict, he is strict but in an obvious way that is studying.<br /> <br /> Dr.Amod Sane, we learned so much from him, the part I love the most Differential equations, He thought Modeling & Simulation whose most of part relates to differential equations, and He made that thing more fun & exciting with the turtles from Netlogo, Use of differential equations in day to day life, Creating simple mathematical models to complex models are some glimpses of his classroom lectures.<br /> <br /> Dr. Rajeev Bansal taught us best part, the differential equations & numerical methods, right from basic equations to hard-complex equations, creating them and solve them.<br /> <br /> Padma Pingle Ma'am taught us OR, its aspects in day to day life. When students felt sleepy during lectures, she knew how to enlight the mood by telling their college stories. <br /> <br /> Dr. Ankita Katre and Dr. Snehal Shekatkar are faculty we didn't get much time to spend with but their lectures were exciting.

Overall experience

The overall experience at CMS was beyond great. Maths & programming, hard work, innovation, creativity is in the air of CMS. which every technical institute should have. CMS helped me find inner me, who always want to work in the field which CMS promotes, but I didn't get to know what I want until I joined CMS. CMS does not promote to just pass, It promotes to study, which will stay with students after the CMS, in real life. I had a real fear of programming, but that has been converted to one of my strength, thanks to CMS staff.

Impact on career and growth

Yes, a lot. I always want to complete my Ph.D. in a different subject. because I didn't had a great preference. As I have been to CMS my Ph.D. choice has been changed and it's part of my interest.

Advice for current and future students

CMS is the only place where the culture of maths and programming is preserved, No other department allows its students to stay late at their department. You are at one of the best places in the world, take advantage of that. Try to be in contact with alumni of CMS as possible. Always disturb your teachers, don't leave them until your problems are solved. Try to learn and grab as much you can, Someone has said that CMS is an ocean and if you got a handful of it then also you have got much more than you thought. Best of luck.

Which direction should CMS grow in?

Every math and programming lover should be at CMS, I felt that CMS should be known for CFD, OR, maths and not just Machine learning. I loved the thought of Ph.D. at CMS, I think University should promote this, If this happens then I want to be the first student for Ph.D.
